270 V-berth conversion

in Rinker Express Cruisers Forum

We just bought a 2004 270 and love it !  Can someone please tell me how the table lowers to fill in for a berth?  I assume that I have the original table and I am missing the filler piece that goes between the head/galley and the table.  Should there be a short pole that fastens the lowered table in place?

Thanks to you all for your helpful information while I researched the 270!

    search 270 v-berth cushion shows the pic - some are fabric some are a vinyl type..but the pic gives you the ideal=the table is on a pedestal that separates=the top lays between the seats

    If your long enough to lay from the berth to the head, you need a bigger boat! You should be able to remove the pedestal from the table. There is an end piece that supports the front edge of the table and then a cushion filler. Hope that helps and welcome to the forum!

    I'm not that long but the cushions are.  I really enjoyed watching the Eagles game with my wife there yesterday, but the aft end of the filler cushion had not support and the table moved as we put weight on it.  At least I have the filler cushion.  I will call Rinker tomorrow for my first time.  Do you use a short table post when you lower the table?

    There is a short kind of kidney shaped piece that supports the front edge of the table and fills the space between the wall at the head and the berth. You can just see it under the edge of the mattress in this pic. If missing it likely isn't hard to make.

    I don't think there is a shorter post, mine just rests on the carpet on the inside of the U shaped side cushions

    The post is spring loaded. Loosen the knob on the base and push down. Then tighten the knob.

    Post comes out and the table lays on the “rim” of the seat area... an extension piece is added to hold the table in place and square off the end of the bed. If I get a chance this afternoon I will take a picture of the extension piece.

    The red arrow is pointing at a small “tab” that would go UNDER the table top. 
    The blue arrow is pointing at an aluminum “L” bracket that the previous owner of my boat added to keep the cushion from sliding to the aft.

    @diggin2day I also have the 270! I have never had a small extension under the table when it’s converted to a full bed. Did you boat come with a small extension? I would love one for added support!! Just not sure how long and would need to make sure it fits tigt. Any thoughts on where to purchase? Thanks

    @laureniac1 - This is a factory part for my FV270, it keeps the table from sliding and provides the needed extension/support for the bed cushion. I can certainly reproduce this piece... I would make it out of 3/4” thick King StarBoard for rigidity. I will take measurements and price out materials and let you guys know.

    I bet you could get creative and cut the post and find a way to adapt the piece back to it...like how fence railing fits together.

    You don need the post - the table with that additional piece will support. One thing you learn quickly on a boat, you don't want extra stuff on the boat. Takes up room for booze .

    Uhhh....what held  the mattress cushion up? Or did you just lay on the curved seat cushions?

    I just made a small post for the table with 2" pvc that that I tapered at the ends with a belt sander.  I love it because it makes the table rock solid so it doesn't slide around.  I also made a cardboard template for the filler so I can make one myself.  It sounds like I should make a bunch of them to sell.  I looked into the suggested 3/4” thick King StarBoard but am going to use 3/4" plywood to save $100.

    I also made a short tube to support the table.  If you put your knee down in the right spot, the table will kick out.  The short table leg solves that and provides a solid bed.
