  I run a line from the port cleats right through the trailer eye on the ski and back to the starboard cleat that way I can adjust it to how close or far away I want it to ride in the wake

  I believe that you have to put a valve in to the jet ski to close off water from entering the engine while not running, otherwise you’ll shoot water in to the engine while towing it. I’m not an expert on that nor have I done it so just something for you to look in to

  Yes, You do have to install a valve or pinch the line.
