Alternator Replacement - 350 MAG

I pulled the seawater pumps today (what a nightmare of a task - especially with SeaCore) and while I had the belts off I gave the alternators a spin. One clearly needs new bearings. Thoughts on having the alternator rebuilt vs buying new aftermarket? Looks like an aftermarket alternator is around $100 and I expect rebuilding wouldn't be much cheaper.

That's a marine alternator? I'd be sure to get the right one...no spark s allowed!

I'm betting a Marine alternator is more than double that price. That is definitely NOT a part you want to try not using Marine.

Just keep in mind that is not an oem mercruiser part, it’s just an offset for mercruiser, brand is “discount marine” or whatever. I always stuck with oem or Sierra for mercruiser parts. How much is a Sierra alternator?

DB electrical has good prices on marine alternators and starters. Call them with your serial number to make sure you get the right one. 1 yr warranty i believe. Located in Tennessee.

My dad has their starter and alternator on his pontoon and has had no issues. 3.0 inboard i believe.

That's my only experience with them.

Id still have the old one rebuit for a good spare on the shelf.

Being that there is a real person that answers when you call at a real facility there's usually a good chance the products are quailty. If they were prone to issues with their warranty it would be a constant headache. Unlike ebay/amazon where you're billing statement is in Chinese and the seller is pushing items they have never inventoried.

I replaced both of mine with ones from DB Electrical over two years ago. I held onto one of my old ones as a spare. So far they have been great.

I had a local guy rebuild my starter...not sure if he is still around or not as that was 5 years ago...guess he did a good job!
