We registered our boat with the Coast Guard and there’s a requirement to permanently affix the registration number to a visible, structural, interior part of the hull such that removal would leave a mark (or words to that effect0). Any advice on how/where that is best done?

I have seen people make up a nice board with the numbers and display at the helm -

On express cruisers, a lot of people use an engraved plate that is screwed to a bulkhead or stringer in the engine room. Pick a location where it will be convenient for you to show it to an inspecting authority.
