Mercruiser quick connect oil drain hose

What do you captains do with the Mercruiser quick connect oil drain hoses?

Do you leave them in the bottom of the bilge or are the supposed to be secured somewhere?

Mine are just sitting in the bilge, I just noticed the sell some type of clamp on Mercs. parts depot, and now that has me thinking they are supposed to be secured .

Mine are secured to the transom with just a screwed on plastic wire holder.

Same here. the only thing is if you used them for an oil change there is a good chance that it will not go thru the hole for the drain plug ,I had to modifying the hole for the drain plug then reseal the modify area.

I tried to fish that drain through, from outside the boat, but gave up on it.. I now shove it through the drain instead... turns out, the oil drain tube is a great anchor for the drain plug, so i can let the plug dangle (and not lose it) more than the drain line benefits from the plug... but.. i figure, being attached to the plug keeps the drain line from venturing into anything else's business, which is a good thing..

Nephew had a boat with the drain line attached to his transom plug (mine is too). He forgot to put his plug back in before launching so it was dangling by the chain that attaches it to the drain line. while boating the water apparently pulled the line out, it hit the prop and the line was cut off. Now he was pumping oil into the water and didn't know it until the low oil pressure alarm went off. I now make doubly sure that my plug is in !!!

The CG would love that, can you imagine the fine? What is it $5K for a first offense? Ouch! MT
