Caulk for joints in hull

in Rinker Express Cruisers Forum
What product did Rinker use to caulk the seam between the hullsides and the cap over the blower inlet/outlets?

I know it was not 3M 4000 or 4200.

    I'm actually looking to do the same as well.  I did them years ago, but I can't remember what I used, but it didn't work well anyhow (hence why I need to redo them).

    I did some research in to this years ago and landed on white boat life, life caulk, being a good option for this. But I have yet to execute this project.

    I used 4000UV on mine. One word of caution, I caulked it solid to the bottom of the rub rail and the problem was that the water would get behind the top of the rub rail trim and worked its way under the hull joint and into the boat. This was mostly in the Vee berth area due to the curve of the trim not sealing tight to the hull. I cut the caulk away from the fiberglass and problem went away. So my long winded point is to caulk the hull joint and not the rub rail.

    I ordered some Life Seal to test in the spring.

    Not sure whether Life Seal or Life Caulk is the right choice based on this thread:

    I'm not planning to mess with anything around the rub rail, only to make pretty the caulking around the cap on over the blower vents and the area where the hardtop meets the hull.

    I'm not 100% sure I understand, but I might...if you could expound or use pictures for the slow kids, I'd appreciate it.

    Sorry i misunderstood the original question. I thought you were talking about the hull joint between the top and bottom half. Should have put on my reading glasses LOL

    I believe he is talking about it, behind the rub rail.  Sounds like you caulked the underside of the rubrail initially?  What was the thought behind it?  My initial thought, if not removing the rub rail is to caulk the top so rain water wouldn't get in behind it.  But yes, the best is removing and caulking behind it.

    I have never tried the 4200 but I did use the life calk. I don't know if it was just me but I found it to be a mess to work with..maybe a bad tube but it was on the runny side.

    For caulking an exposed deck seal like deck joints I like Life Caulk better. It is what they recommend for the black caulk on teak decks. 

    I’ve used life seal on deck snaps and other deck hardware and it’s worked very well.
