New boat, new journey

The long wait of getting back on the water is finally over…although, with how bad the weather has been in New England this spring and early summer, we don’t fell like I missed out on much.

After selling my 350 EC last September, it took us a while (and a few surveys) to find what we were looking for. I picked her up in Freeport, Long Island on Monday and made the 9 hour maiden voyage to my home port in Rhode Island.
She’s a 2002 Silverton 410 Sport Bridge. At 35,000 lbs, she is a load, but the CAT diesels pushed her effortlessly.
Even though I sold my Rinker, I still come to this forum every day. And like so many others who have stayed, I plan on remaining part of this family.
Now the fun begins…learning a new boat, crawling in every hole, and finding things that make you say wtf!

Cruised 8 hours up the Atlantic at 2300 RPM at about 16 knots. Never touched the throttles. Just effortless. I was in awe, totally blown away by those babies. Burned about 30 gps roughly, I’ll know more when I spend $1K to fill her up and see how many gallons I actually burned on the trip.

Does she have the front and rear thrusters? Looks like a tank to dock.
It was definitely a concern when I was buying…when we did the sea trial, I spent time with the previous owner at the helm talking to him about docking and not having a thruster on a boat this size. He said, with the diesels, it wasn’t a big deal if you know what you’re doing.
And actually I was pleasantly surprised. The CATS have huge props. They spin the boat effortlessly. The response is quick and amazing. Just a quick in and out of gear. The low end grunt is impressive. I backed into the slip no issues at all. Well the only real issue is that there isn’t much visibility from the fly bridge when backing in. I can see the corner on the starboard side swim platform, otherwise I’m blind. So need someone good on the platform when docking. Maybe one day I’ll get a Garmin backup camera.
I will try to get some pics next week. The fly bridge is huge. Seats 7 comfortably. Has an icemaker (soon to be a fridge) and a sink.

A few weeks ago my wife and I came back upriver against current at sunset and she wanted to enjoy it so I was at idle upriver doing 5-6 kts.
@johnny44 those engines seem huge for that boat and not in a bad way. It must really get up and go.
