2000 FV270 Mercruiser 5.7L EFI Gen+ Operating Temp?

Out for a short ride yesterday and noticed that my temp guage was creeping up to about 180, and then was bouncing a bit between 180 to about 185. Previous outings I was around 160, maybe up to 180 after an extended run.
Sounds high?

    mine runs about the 180 or slightly above the mark on the gauge....not sure how accurate it is anyway...the thermoset I believe is 175....

    Thanks Rasbury. I was sure I was seeing around 160 to 170 before, but maybe not. Still only have about 2 hours run time so far, so still getting the parameters straight.

    Mine runs at a constant 150 as displayed on my VesselView.

    Fresh water cooled or raw water makes a difference.plus the water in Canada is still freaking cold.

    The water here in fl is 82 degrees...I'm closed cooled as well but dint understand why that would matter..it measures raw water right?

    Hmmmm. Seems to be a wide range from 150 to 180. Guess it depends on the thermostat, and to check that I'd have to pull it, at which point I'd just change it anyway.....now I just need to figure out what should be in there.

    @rasbury the sensor is on the thermostat housing it measures the antifreeze.I have always shot it with a lazer,risers 100°,Block 175° + or - .

    There is a different thermostat depending on whether it is FWC or raw water cooled.

    mine is closed cooling...seems like when I was having pump cooling issues found I had two sensors, one for the closed and one for the raw- I have had my thermostat out and don't recall any sensor in the housing.....so if I have two sensors, I really don't know for sure what is running what?
