sea strainers

I was told to put intake sea strainers with large filters on my 330 . Then today someone told me NOT to do that because of no cooling of the outdrive . So I'm wondering , did I mess up by doing so ?

    Thanks Handy, I think they're position correctly and are in the right direction. My concern was that there wouldn't be any cooling effect on outdrive causing over heating.

    If you look at a cut-away of the outdrive you will see that the cooling water does not cool that much of the drive, so by installing a thru hull and blocking off the OD I see no issue.  If you are concerned with OD cooling I would suggest installing a "Drive shower", do a google search. I plan to install a thru hull and sea water strainer on my 270, eliminate the OD intake and install a drive shower.
