Has anyone pulled the kohler 5E genny out of their boat? If so tips and tricks? Do you have to remove anything from main drive engines to get it out? Having starting issues, pretty sure its the starter which is in the worst place possible. Any help would be amazing.

On a 2001 310 you need to pull the alternator and heat exchanger from the port engine to get the 5E out. Likely not the same on a 2010. Sorry.

I've heard for our boat the port engine has to come out to get the genny out.

For the 01 310 I was told the same, thankfully when I called the Rinker factory about it in 2012 I got Randy Rinker on the phone who assured me just those top front engine parts needed to come out. In my case he was right....

I have a 2004 312 and it looks like it can be removed without remove the motor. But I never had to remove it so I could be wrong. Here is a photo.

    Thanks all.
I've ordered a starter for the genny, hopefully that is all it is.

Has anyone ever changed the starter with Genny still in the boat? I think i can remove mounting bolts, then pull/ turn it a little, hopefully enough to get around to the back side where the starter is mounted.

Have not changed it but yes that should be something you can do in the boat. Believe it’s on the back of the unit against the wall. Once you remove the screws holding it in place it’s pretty easy to slide, may need to disconnect water lines and maybe fuel but should not need to disconnect electric. Make sure to run blower if you disconnect fuel.

    What is the symptom?
