Help with a steady alarm and no start

seadogsseadogs Member Posts: 66 ✭✭
Hi everyone. Thanks for any and all help. I have a 202 342 with 5.7 mags. We had the engines warming up to go out and got a steady alarm for the starboard engine. No big deal trace that to a bad temp sensor. Now what is has turned into is a delay of about 30 seconds for the beep and fuel pump to come on. Then the alarm is on steady the fuel pump will not turn off after the normal few seconds and the engine is a no start. I am trying to find out how to clear the codes and would they keep this problem.  I did a bunch of testing and it goes back to the ecm. Swapping  it to the port side the problem follows it. Any thoughts on this. I have my own but not sure about this 555 ecm clearing. Thanks for your time.

Codes are stored in the ECM so swapping them will have it go over. That tone I believe is low drive fluid.

Hi I though gear lube first thing. Been there several times. Thank you. Shouldn't  the ecm see a clean system on the port side ? It still won't power the main relay for up to a minute .

There are hard and soft codes I understand, you can clear one but the other persists.

Thank you. Do you know if any codes would keep the fuel pump on during the first power up. And then it stays on until you turn off the ignition.  Also I found that the ecm is not turning the main relay on the way it should. Thank you.

If you know anyone with the tool to read & clear the faults, that'd be your best shot.  My guess is clearing the faults will allow it to start.

Agree with @Dream_Inn, you need to get in there with the Merc tool to look and clear codes out.

I had issues last year with repeating 2 beeps that was an IAC but for some reason had a stuck relay for the fuel pump - a tap and it dropped off. Replaced then last cruise of the year one double beep again, found the master relay was faulty (per the code) now replaced also. 5 hour trip to home port yesterday no issues.

So turn the key, wait the few seconds where it should drop the pump and then tap the top of the relays, see if they drop off. If so that would be starting point 1. But you still have to clear codes so having the ECM read is important.

I am hoping to have it scanned in the next day or so. I did go last night and check relays. The are OK . I traced relay action back to pin 22 on the a connector of the ecm. It grounds and opens at will. I will post more after I get codes. I am having a hard time with the waiting since I own several scanners for my job. auto tech and ECM programmer.  I may end up with a new rinda soon.

If you lived just a bit closer, Pau Hana has a rinda that we use around our dock as needed.

Wouldn't mind one myself just for self diagnosis but not that smart to know the right one to get plus it's likely not worth the expense.

I can see alarm codes on the vessel view.  Thought about getting a Rinda but they are a little more than I want to spend for something I should need rarely.

Yeah, now with VVM I can too - not that I want to see one. If it comes up can't be cleared with it though but like you, hard to justify the cost.

Stand corrected in part - the Block Coolant pressure alarm I created when disconnecting the sensor the other day is not "sticky" so cleared and the app allows the notification to be cleared also. There will be some that are "sticky" you'll need the right tool for.

Well I was told that the tech allowed by our marina can't get to it for a while.  So I'm ordering  my rinda .  I will update asap. Thanks for all the input.
