Ice maker

Ok, i was working on the ice maker and wasn't able to get water to the ice maker part. So i bought a solenoid and replaced the old one now i get water but it wont stop running. Grrr. Any ideas guys?

Are you sure it's the solenoid?  I'm having issues with mine, but it's leaking after the solenoid.  I asked my mechanic and he said the tubes that go up to ice tray run close to the compressor and can get damaged.

Do you guys mean the valve that allows water to enter the unit? Its a cheap and easy replacement.

@Stodge pretty sure because it wasn’t opening to let water up to the ice maker now the water comes on but won’t go off.

@Liberty44140 when you say valve are you talking about what the water goes in the side of with like a faucet connection and out the bottom with tubing that plugs in to the freezer.

Well, I've definitely taken mine apart before, but I don't know all the technical terms.  But, I do know there is something electrical that physically turns (inside the little white box in the front of the ice tray) and allows it to go thru all its cycles (water fill, freeze, empty ice).  Have you tried to turn that thru its cycles?

yep. It is important. It turns the water on and off based on the cycles that Dream mentioned and when it starts to go bad it can drip in to the ice box. Also, it could be bad and be not opening to let water in to the box.

@Dream_Inn i have been trying to take the cover off the ice maker but not sure how without breaking it..but the freezer works great bought a bag of ice and it stayed froze. It would just be nice to not run out and have to go get more.

@Liberty44140...mine is new. I may try and replace plumbing going to the valve. My original was gone and my tech i dont know he done it hooks up but its a lot different connections.
Does anyone have pics of the plumbing for it?

@cls10105 thanks for the offer.  But my solenoid is working fine, it's the line running to the ice tray that is leaking.  I watched the back of my ice maker as it cycled and saw water leaking from the back, not the solenoid.

@zaverin1 LOL it's not a matter of avoiding the work, it's finding the time.  Agreed it's likely the same stuff for ice makers.  I have some somewhere.  Just have to get in and do it.

I had to replace the ice maker part on mine. It would not turn. I finally got the cover off and it was full of rust. replaced it and the valve and now we have ice. It works great. 
This is what I bought. Found the solenoid  valve on eBay.

@MojosBoat, hey man how did you get the cover off? I am hoping not to buy the ice maker part if so probably be in the fall or winter. If you get a chance would you be able to take a pic of the water connections going in to the solenoid/valve. I would really appreciate it. Thank you

@cls10105, I just pried it off and it was full of rust. I  have it all back together and running. if you take the bottom cover off, 2 screws hold it on, you can see the valve in the front. It has a water hose type fitting and a small compression fitting on it. The valve is held in by 2 screws also.

@cls10105, one other thing I should mention. The new ice maker mechanism has a plug on the wires and the old one was wired with crimp connectors. I had to cut the plug off and wire it in and it has an extra wire. It is just a ground wire I grounded to the frame of the ice maker. All the other wires color matched.

@MojosBoat, no we got new neighbors at the dock and i talked had a couple of beers looked at the lights then talked some more and had a couple more beers almost didn't get the lights done.
