Replace cockpit fridge

well I think the tundra TJ22AC has had it. Can’t get it below 50F and the frost on the freezer is starting to drip. I keep the dial at half but turned it up all the way to coldest and still won’t get cold. Fan and compressor are clean and running. It’s getting power. We leave it running all week in the super hot canvas and I think it’s just done.

any recommended drop in replacements?

Had similiar problem on 5 year old dometic in cabin. Spent money on new dryer filter and still had problem. Door gasket was hard and applied foam behind gasket and so far problem solved.

Thank. I’ve been through that, seal is good... and it’s only like 65F here anyway. Turned the thermostat to max cold and it came down to 40 for. While but now back up to 50.

Why not just get a A/C guy there to check and charge? He should be able to find and repair any leaks in the system.

That is plan A, the place I sent you the link to can check and charge so I’ll start there. Just prepping for replacement.

Interesting chain of events. I talked to the previous owner and he nicked the Freon line on the freezer years ago with a screw driver and had a friend who does refrigerants patch the hole and re charge. That was probably in the 2009 arena. So I called the guy who patched and charged and he is going to be by my boat soon and offered to re charge it for me to see if it might hold another 6-7 years. Definitely worth a try before buying new. Will update....

I replaced my 4.2 in the galley with a Virtifrigo and been very happy with it.  I imagine they have a 2.2 that will be a direct replacement.

You are correct, the Vitrifugo C62 which is 2.2 is pretty much an exact fit. I've been comparing it to Norcold and Isotherm and Vitrifugo is within 1/8" of an exact fit in the cockpit. So, if the recharge doesnt work this is what I will buy.

Vitrifigo is what was stock in my 270 and I think a lot of other models also.

The Dometic CR65 series has a removable freezer. If/when I need to replace mine, that is an awesome feature and I will consider it.

New fridge went in great! Fit fine, just a little smaller but it’s deeper which I like. Still need to put a stainless insert in the ice maker. Also thought I’d toss in a pic of us running on Friday evening
