Charger draining battery

No shore power plugged in because my batteries kept draining.  figured out that the charger was not doing its job, so ordered a new charger.  While waiting for the new  charger I notice the light is constantly on from the old charger.  I disconnect that battery and the light goes out.  Can the charger drain a battery if shore power is not hooked up and both batteries are turned off at the panel on a 242 Rinker ?

If you have an inverter/charger combination it's possible it's making electricity for you.  That would kill the batteries.

I don't have one, but I would expect there to be a way to turn off the inverter function on a combination unit.

You could google the model number of the charger and see if it is a combination unit.

thanks for the response, I'll look it up.  I believe its original from 2001, so probably time for a new one anyway..lol

Sounds like a failed diode in the battery isolator.
