2003 Rinker 342 Fiesta Vee Anchor and Chain

Long story short I need to get a new anchor and chain. I decided I'm going with a stainless plow anchor and galvanized chain. I have two questions; What weight anchor should I get. I see weights all over the place based on my boat but looks like a 22 lbs will work. Next question is what size chain do I need, for instance 1/2' or 5/16'. I know it can vary based on the windless but I can not find the answers. Thank you in advance.

I recently switched from a plow to a Rocna 22 pound for my boat.  I have 200 feet of chain for rode.  The chain is 1/4 inch.

Which model windlass do you have? Horizons have a number stamped on the gypsy/drum and you can look it up online to see which chain is compatible. Others may be the same. Have seen several instances of same model boat having different gypsy's.

The 1/4' works well in your windless? I was looking to get 5/16 but as Willhound mentioned I may need to look at my windless model.

I have a Horizon 600 and was advised by Lewmar support to use 1/4 inch chain.  So far so good.

I learned the hard way. Based on recommendations by others with the same windlass I initially purchased 5/16" chain only to find it wasn't compatible. Cost me $80 in return shipping to get the 1/4" I needed.

1/2" rode

I replaced mine last year with 8-plait rode.  lays better, softer too.

So I got the new rode. 1/2” line, 1/4” chain and 8 strand as you had mentioned. It’s doing exactly it was doing last time where the rope gets stuck in the wheel and spins on itself. I can’t tell what model windless it is so I can’t see if it’s missing something. Any ideas?

Likely a Horizon 600. No longer made or parts either.

As I suggested. Not one size fits all. 

I understand, Just odd that it's doing what it is doing. It was doing the same thing with the old line I had in there. Need to do more research on my end.

Okay, I figured out what is wrong, I need a part that is called a Flemming. That keeps the rope from getting caught and binding.

Ahh, ok. But is it the fleming or the control arm that sits down on top of the rode as it's coming in and keeps it from jumping?
