Jabsco 36400 filter sight glass on fresh water pump.

IanIan Member Posts: 2,778 ✭✭✭✭
Appears mine has developed a crack so sucking in air and leaking. Searching around I can find new complete units, strainer and o-rings but no glass. Anyone know of a place to find - or have one stashed away after replacing unit/pump?

Ian

Hey Ian, I’ve got a similar prob - leak between the filter & pump.. Noticed it once I poured the pink in. (orig thought the fresh water tank had a leak, relieved that it is a simple fix)
Where did you find an o-ring kit? Been looking on the interweb no luck. I’ve got the Jabsco 31395.
May just totally replace the filter and pump all together.

I saw drips when it pressurized up but we were also getting a lot of air in the lines and I thought it was the o-ring as there appeared not to be one. I found some 2" o-rings online as I also had no luck with anyone having the o-ring part despite a number of places offering the part number. I put in the new one I got and it wouldn't pressurize and had a closer look and saw the crack in the plastic sight glass. I pulled out the base - I have the -4000 filter so the fittings plug in and locked with a clip - and now see the o-ring that is pretty well recessed thus missing it when stretching over and half upside down.

My units are 2 separate pieces and once I bypassed filter to test, all was good so that's the only issue. Are you sure it's the filter o-ring?

Yes 2 separate units, have the boat on the driveway this Friday - take a closer look. Need to start limbering up. Have to pretty near do a headstand to diagnose & fix.

Thanks @reneechris14, contacted and there’s don’t fit Jabsco apparently. Bugger, thought you solved my issue. Looks like I’ll have to buy a whole unit.

No. mine is this style https://www.defender.com/product.jsp?id=121084 but a -4000 which means the base has the plug in connectors with a slide that holds in place. I need the sight glass only. Looks like I'll have to buy a new unit as it seems these are not a spare part despite the interchangeability over many -x000 variants and potential to crack if tightened too hard or not winterized right.

What you describe sounds like mine, with the "plug in connectors with a slide that holds in place".  Is the difference that your inlet/outlet go straight through, and mine is on a 90 degree angle?

Yes, that type of connector but overall a different form factor.

Hey Ian, found a bunch of fittings. SHURflo makes the 'snap-in' fittings & stainless strainers that thread right onto the Jabsco pumps. Fittings can be straight, 90*, barbed or threaded. The snap-in fittings come with lube for the o-rings.

I'm just gonna replace it all with new. New Jabsco pump, 2x90* fittings & a new strainer. Not very costly at all.

Yeah, resigned to the fact now I have to replace the whole thing and no, not that expensive, odd the sight glass is not a spare part.
