Behind the cockpit refrigerator

I decided to pull out the cockpit refrigerator to see what was behind it. I’m glad I did because the pan drain was clogged and backed up. I wish I took a before picture, the pan was filthy! There’s a pair of wires, black and red that are taped off, anyone know what they could be used for or where there supposed to go? The red and black wire in the background goes to the blender. Also what’s the part number for the refrigerator? I don’t see any tags on it.

Looks like the 12v power supply to that fridge. You should have both an ac outlet to plug in to and then dc power running to the fridge too

@Liberty44140 , the black pigtail is the 12V DC hookup, the AC is the plug off of the refrigerator that goes to an outlet behind the fridge. It’s an extra set of wires. Is the Ice maker AC/DC? I only see the AC plug plugged in.

Not all fridges have 120V AC connections.  My cockpit fridge is 12V DC only.  Down below is both.

The fridge I pulled out is both.

I need to replace it, I might replace with 12 volt only. What do you guys recommend?

If your boat comes 12v only, then thats fine, but if your original fridge is AC/DC and you have AC/DC back there then you should stick with an AC/DC fridge. No reason to put that draw on your DC system while you have AC power. I assume you have an ac switch on the panel? I replaced my cockpit AC/DC fridge this summer with a Vitrifrigo i62. Fit perfectly and we love it. Was around $800 delivered from CitiMarine in Miami. 

Right agree with Dream - ice maker is AC only.

@Liberty44140 , I have 2 separate breakers, one for each refrigerator. I guess it switches over to AC and shuts DC off automatically when the breakers are turned on with shore power or generator?

yes, when you supply AC to the fridges they auto switch to AC from DC. Depending on how old your fridge is you can tell when it's on AC because the light inside the fridge gets brighter when you turn AC on. On my brand new cockpit fridge with an LED light I dont know that it gets brighter when on AC.

Agree with above commenter.  Fridge is AC/DC, ice maker is AC only.

How did you get fridge out?  I tried getting mine out this summer and the trim ring all around fridge seemed glued to the cabinet.  Was afraid I was going to break something.

@Spyderweb , I just unscrewed the trim and it pulled right out.

Did it seem like there was some kind of sealant used on the backside of the trim?  I took all the screws out and I couldn't get it to budge.  Was afraid to start prying it for fear of gouging up trim or cabinet.

Mine had sealant. If you use a small putty knife, then a 6" or so drywall bade, it will slowly break the seal. It will take some time to do the work.

@aero3113 are there cooling fins behind or under fridge that should be cleaned?

Yes.  Same with ice maker (for those that have one).

Mine had a copious amount of silicone holding it in.
