my switch is on the panel nearest the entrance from the swim deck. If there is a switch there that has faded lettering, and the lights dont work, the bulbs may be burned out. I replaced my bulbs with 12v LED bulbs.... they are much brighter and will last much longer. Make sure you use 12 volt bulbs...even though they look like standard lightbulbs, they must be 12v.
Thanks guys, @Dirtythirty no switch around. @Spyderweb and @Dream_Inn ,I’ll double check the cockpit light switch when I get a chance. It’s possible the bulbs are burned out.
I think on my boat it was "Courtesy Lights", could have been cockpit lights too. But yes, it's the same circuit as the lights that are low to the floor deck in the cockpit. If they aren't coming on ... time to replace. I had a few of those LEDs fail on me.
You need to unscrew the backing, then pull the light out with harness. Connect new harness or solder together wires, push light back in and then screw backing back on.
While searching for the lights I came across these LED 12 Volt lights. If I don’t go with the originals I might give these a shot mounted all around the perimeter underneath in the engine bay.
I installed the lights today but think there’re the wrong ones. They don’t give off much light in the engine bay. My courtesy lights up on the deck are much brighter. They give off just enough light to not bump into anything if your down there, definitely can’t work on the engines if needed.
I ended up using 2 of the white cockpit courtesy lights that the previous owner had installed and put them in the engine bay, way brighter than the originals. At least I can now see around down there if needed.
.....or you could do what @bry1429 did and install 200,000 watts of light on your transom and have it shine right thru the hull! :-) Color changing too!
