Outdrive Trim Cylinder Bushings and Spacers

While checking for side to side play in my drives with the new tie bar, I also checked up and down. I lifted with one hand on the skeg and the other on the trim cylinder mounting point by the transom. There was a bunch of play at the rubber bushings. This was starboard side. Port side seemed like it had a tiny bit of play at the plastic trim limit spacer. These are definitely wear items that often get overlooked. New bushings and spacers are on order. A dishonest shop can tell you it’s your steering pin if you don’t know to look there. Something to keep in mind when looking things over.

I decided to order new bushings for each drive (16) and 2 new spacers . If it wasn’t so cold out I would be out there replacing them!

Mind sharing the total cost?  I did this on my Volvo outdrive and it was easy and satisfying!

Sounds reasonable.  I think it was about $60 for a single Volvo DP-SM.

So I decided to go out and change the bushings before the snow started. I’m glad I replaced them, all of the bushings were oval and the 2 spacers were cracked. There still was some play with the new bushings but think everything is contracted because it’s sooooo cold!
