Recommend a GPS tracker

I have a customer who's losing equipment to theft. I need a small GPS tracker i can hide in a small piece of lawn equipment as bait. I plan on adding a 12v battery cel if needed. Due to the time it takes for authorities to act id like pings a few times a day with an expected life of 45 or more days.
I've seen gps trackers that cost 30 to 40 a month but read that some are 70 or so a year, is rather use the one time payment system so im not setting him up for a monthly contract and instead a one time purchase, he can renew if he wants to in a year.
Anyone here have any experience? Recommendations?
