I'm a bad boat parent

Over the holiday break I picked up a 1979 MGB.  It has a few projects it needs done.   Nothing super major other than a paint job.  

But...

For the last few months I've been focused on the car and have done nothing to the boat.  It's a little like when a new kid shows up.  It gets all the attention and the other kids are kinda neglected.  Which makes me a bad boat parent.

My real fear is that when it warms up and I should be cutting shrink wrap and getting the boat ready for the 2020 season I'll be tooling around on the MGB.  Then I'll get the cold shoulder from the boat.  You know, small leak here, broken do-dad there.  

Don't make the same mistake I did.  Keep your first baby foremost in your mind.

Same here.  For seven months, I've basically done nothing except work on my house.  Bad, bad boat parent.  Surely I will be punished.

I did the opposite. I had a 1956 Austin Healey 100-4 and sold it this past September. Now the boat gets my full attention. Doesn’t mean another car isn’t down the road though....

I love having too many irons in the fire.

The best part is giving up boat work time to help my 6th grade son do homework.  I'll help him with math, then when he brings back an F on homework on which i checked all his answers and found them to be right.

Here I am in my 1974 MGB.  Sold it in 1985. I loved that car. Can we see a picture of yours Stodge?

Don't feel bad. I had the opposite issue. Had a Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder. Once the boat came along it sat neglected in the garage until I sold it. Miss it sometimes but only so much toy time.

Well, here is a picture of my toy that I  put together with my father for 3 years, when I was ages 13-16.





Almost 35 years later, she's still on the road and doesn't look half bad still.  Sorry, the pics were at the marina on a weekend that had extremely high water levels, so not best pics of truck.

For those that are curious, yes, I put her on a 1973 Chevy blazer chassis, 4 wheel drive.

The steering wheel is on the same side as it is in your boat. Surely, therefore, the correct side.

Zav buddy, ya gotta get off the testosterone supplements they're affecting your brain. Yeah, Eclipse was kinda a chick's car. But a ton of fun on a twisty road with the top down for not a lot of money. Now go back to your cave. 😉

My MGB is no muscle car.  I was surprised when I was looking at the specs and found the HP on the engine to be about 65HP.

I think there was a guy in a racing circuit running the F series engine and transmission from a Honda s2k in his MGB. This was years ago.

They made a factory V8 version.  I want to say it was a really small Buick engine.  

Considering the little thing weighs about as much as I do, it has plenty of speed.  It's really more for cruising than speeding.

Strangely, the MGB V8 was even lighter than the 4 cylinder version.

I had a 350 in the Healey I sold. The car was scary to drive, put the windshield down and it felt like you were riding on top of a rocket. The car was was between 1600-1800 lbs.

I still ride my fiends bikes but don’t own one. Well mainly because of my young kids.

i used to like going fast, then i preferred going anywhere.  

I miss this rig but when i had the chance to trade for my 7.3 4x4 excursion i didn't want to pass it up.
