Air Conditioner Breaker Trip

Hey all.  Got to my boat today to find the Breaker tripped on my Air.  I flipped the switch and kicked her back on and she ran for 5-10 min with no problems then tripped.  I swapped cords and pulled plugs from the docks shore power, started the Air back up and same 5-10 min then trip.  I decided to see if she would run on the Gen Set and sure enough no trip and she runs fine.  Any Ideas?  All my other electric runs fine on both Genny and Shore power.  Maybe a bad receptacle on the boat for AC?  2005 342.

Check the wiring for any connectors, possibly one is corroded or loose.

I had an AC plug on my 242 crack into pieces that was causing issues.

I would remove the shore hook up on the side of your boat and look for a loose connection. Or its the shore power provided by the marina. Also check for low voltage. Sounds like interior wiring is good.

Yes low voltage will trip a breaker

Most likely the capacitor on the AC has blown. Usually they are a cheap and easy swap out fix

Capacitor only starts the compressor.

Agree, I’ve seen a couple of cases on our dock where the capacitor goes bad and flips the breaker

He said it runs for 5 to 10 min so can't be the capacitor

Ahh, ok listen to Handy, he is the ac guy here! 😉

I had to replace my shore power hook up on the side of the boat over time they come loose. If you pull it out you my see the bad connection.

Has to be the cord connection because the generator goes direct to the main panel
