Captiva 212 prop

I have a 2000 Captiva 212 with carb 5.0. and it came with a 3 blade 17p prop. My max speed is around 31 mph gps on light chop lake water (rpm 5000).  I'm thinking I need to go up in pitch.  19 or 21? I’'m looking for a prop Recommendations.

I am surprised that it came with a 17. I had a 98 232cc with a 5.7 carb and it had a 19 on it. I would go up to a 19. You will lose some hole shot, but you will gain top end.

I agree! I'm think it was one he had laying around.

It all depends on your max RPM's for that motor.  You definitely don't want to go too big of a prop, and lug it.  That is tough on the engine and the drive both.  At wide open throttle, being as close to max RPM's is the ideal pitch.  There are several prop tools available on Mercury's website to determine what might be best for you.

nhsd Do you know the prop model?

    I have a 2002 212 with a 5.0.   I run 21 pitch 3 blade stainless. I get just at 49 mph on gps at about 4800 rpm.

It is a Precision Propeller Turbo I, 14.5 x 21 pitch stainless 3 blade. I also have a Quicksilver Vengence 13.75 x 21 pitch 3 blade stainless that gets about the same performance. Both of these are old props (at least 15 years) so I don’t know if they are still made.
