Identification help please

I found this filter in the engine bay of our recently acquired boat, I can't see where it's from.  I presume a marine engineer left it there after doing work for the previous owners.  Can anyone identify it for me?...Thanks

Cold it be some sort of water filter?

Maybe a charcoal filter for the vent on the waste tank?

I have no answer, but I can offer the non-answer that I've never seen one like that in 17 years as a Rinker owner.

Thank you for your comments, I did wonder if it is something to do with water filtering.  It has no smell so nothing to do with fuel and probably not waste either.  I'll let you know if I figure out what it is.  Thanks again for your help.

I agree. If there's nothing mounted anywhere now, there may have been in the past. I've looked all over the net and the only filters I see like that are for water. Looks like a charcoal filter for taste and odour.

Any chance it part of a vacuum system filtering? Wild guess, doesn’t seem to fit other purposes.
