windlass foot pedals

I was wondering if anyone has installed windlass foot pedals, I have a 2005 320 with the stock lewmar 600/800 unit. It looks like the wiring would have to be run from the helm which might be a pain in the a$$? Thanks

I’m not 100% sure but you should be able to piggyback off the wiring for the winch in the anchor locker?

If you can access the solenoid you can easily add the foot switches.

I had to run a cable for the foot switch for my 310 and installed the relay behind the switch. It was direct switched previously with the 600 but the 1000 needed/came with new switch and relay. It is a PITA but worth doing.

Have you considered adding the wireless remote instead of foot controls?

Are you able to switch between helm and foot to prevent accidental hitting from both spots?

@Liberty44140 no, both are active but if I am up front dropping or retrieving all the admiral does is press the yellow or red buttons on the breaker to liven or make safe as requested. She knows I have the con for the windlass unless instructed otherwise.

I didnt know of this remote control option. I will have to look into it. I assume you wire a receiver into the control relay? I am wondering where the control relay is. Has anyone done this before to a 320 or 342? Thanks

Yes, on my cruisers the bow stays active and helm is not active, if I want to use the helm switch I have to hold the button at the helm down for 8 sec until a light changes color and then the helm is active and bow is not.

I’m sure that as long as you know how it works it’s just fine. Always wished I had bow controls on my 310 and 342

The one I was looking at is made by Lewmar. It's compatible with the Horizon 600/800, it still needs the solenoid for it to work.

I have since sold the boat and never got to install it.

How does that remote install?  Does it hook up near the dash and replace the existing switch?

This is the wiring diagram for my windlass. Doesn't look like there is a relay ?

I think the relay is between the switch and windlass. On the diagram it would be where the 4 circles come in contact with the arrow. Although I do see it's all 6 gauge wire so maybe there isn't a relay since the purpose is generally to use smaller gauge wire at the switch.

For the 600 there wasn’t on fitted, if you go up to the bigger one it will need a relay installed.

Thanks for the input. If I want to proceed with the remote or foot pedals I will have to put in a relay

Not sure about remote, it may come with a relay unit. To be honest (reality, not pessimism) based on experience seen here and my own, your 600 may be near end of life for a 2005 so an upgrade may be in the works soon, I replaced with a Pro1000 and got new switch, breaker and a relay as part of the kit.

I installed a remote on my 2005 342. Best thing I've ever done!! So easy and handy when setting aft anchors.
At least on my boat, the relay was behind the subwoofer.
