Sealing thru hulls

Can't search on my phone so asking as a quick question. I re sealed my raw water and suspect I need to do my genny- and maybe redo the raw. Since I'm talking re sealing, am I using the 5200 or 4209? I would think you would want to be able to replace this stuff as needed...right? So 4200?

I think 4200 would be fine.  I had no intention on removing mine again so I used 5200.

Well, I'd think this would be a " service " item and may require removal I'm the future @Alswagg? I always here the 5200 is a "permanent" bonding adhesive?

@rasbury - In 15 years when that thru hull needs resealing the 5200 will be done.  Whatever was used to seal my thru hulls fell apart in my hands.

Heat also breaks down 5200 and you can remove things.

I agree, my garboard (drain plug base) pulled off the hull with no issues at all. I would think this was originally sealed with 5200 in 2008.

I don't know how permanent 5200 is. I think it is still removable. I think juts compared to 4200 it's "permanent". Definitely no liquid nails though.

You can always use a heat gun to soften the 5200, will make it easier to remove.

Hey @rasbury , why ask then argue the fact after the most experienced person here gave you the best answer?

Because I like to understand and double check- I would have thought a thru Hull fitting that you would never expect to remove would be different than some you may have to replace down the road...

It's a legitimate question @rasbury since everyone always refers to 5200 as permanent. However permanent scmhermanent 😁 you can still remove it.
