Replacing cockpit speakers 2006 Rinker 270

I replaced the 4 original Clarion speakers in my cockpit just 2 seasons ago with Sony Marine speakers. The 2 Clarions in the cabin were still fine.  Just pulled the shrink and I see one of the new Sony’s in the cockpit already cracked. Guess another replacement is in order. Suggestions???

Kenwood will last much longer.  Sony won't last.  @LaRea will back me up.

I installed Alpine’s in 2014 and they are still in good shape.

Agreed - Sony marine speakers are 2-season speakers, even when protected from sun and rain.

I guess I found out the hard way on Sony speakers. I’ve been a diehard Sony TV fan for many years and assumed the same high quality when I bough the Sony speakers.

I have been running Kenwood marine speakers for the last 10 years with no issues. Sounds great......

Polk audio 6 inch will fit the hole had mine 3 years now and happy with them.

So, about these speakers...mine are still the original and work just mine...I'm not a music but and really don't have them on that much- so my question is, how do they seal? I have a leak that works its way to the midship ceiling and I swear it's coming from the speaker by the useless map storage there on the port side....I tried to pull the speaker but the screw heads just stripped out and I'm going to have to drill them out...

Ps- mine came with some sort of amp from the factory and cranks pretty good...anyone have any CD's left for me lol?

@rasbury do you have a drain hole in the glove compartment (map storage) . I would guess that leak is the windshield or the screws that hold it down. Did the speakers in my 270 on seal needed. It was dry an dusty under the speaker. The gentleman that purchased the boat did the windshield and srcews to fix a leak by aft rug.

My vote for Kicker marine & JL Audio, used them both....very happy.

Some great suggestions. I’ll start looking now. Need speakers that fit the big holes. I can drill the screw holes if those don’t match.

I haven’t had a chance yet. The Sonys still sound okay but one is cracked

Polk audio think It was Dp651??they fit the hole but did have to drill the mounting holes

I put them in my 342. I really like the way they sound especially for what I paid for them

I replaced all the speakers in my 2000 FV 270 with JL. 6.5" up front and 8.8" in rear. Amplified of course (JL amp) and replaced the head unit.  Couldn't be happier. Sound amazing and they seem to be holding up really well.

So, I think I asked the question above, not to intrude on the thread, but what keeps the water from going through these??

The cone and rubber surround keeps water from flowing though the speakers. If the cone is dry rotted, then they are no longer waterproof.

And any marine rated speaker is a polypropylene cone not fabric or paper.

Yes. Being in a marine environment, the cone gets dry and brittle. When playing music, it will cause the cone to break.
