Clarion stereo problems.

I recently lost the center 2 speakers on my sound system in my 2000 FV270.   I replaced the four cockpit speakers last year and all was well after the replacement.  This season upon dewinterization the rear speakers and cabin speakers work fine, just nothing coming from neither the right or left center speaker.  Tried tracing wiring and all seems to be in order.  Is this a potential problem with the amp?

How are your speakers connected?   Sounds like you may have a separate amp.   If so,  are the line-in connections to the amp ok? Is the amp getting power?   This assumes that your problem channels are connected to the auxiliary amp.

Near as I can tell all connections are good between the tuner and amp and then the amp and speakers.  All connnections are monkey match plugs.  Hard to see everything since I haven't yet figured out how to remove the radio/tuner.  I have been looking over top of the galley assembly, where the microwave and radio are stacked, with a inspection mirror and light.  Have been able to trace all lines from the radio to the amp and from the speaker main plug to the amp.  All plugs are tight and connected.  Was wondering if anyone had this type of system and if they had the same problem.  The speakers I installed are soldered in.  All the speaker wires go to a plug that is pluggged into another plug that comes from the amp.  Thinking maybe the newer speakers overloaded the amp and caused a channel to shut down/burn out. BTW I am still running the stock Clarion speakers in the cabin, Clarion radio and Clarion amp.  Installed 4 Infinity speakers in the cockpit as the originals fell apart, looked like the cones just dried out.

Assuming your rear cockpit speakers are driven by the amp like Boomer says and your cabin speakers are fine,  check your fader.   Obvious I know but I had to ask.

Fade works fine, balance works fine.  Just trying to figure out why those 2 middle speakers in the system went south.

I had a similar problem last season except it was my tw rear speakers.  It was a blown fuse on the the amp itself.

UPDATE:  Was able to pull the radio tonight and access the amp.  Amp was getting power and fuse to it was good but still could not get volume in center speakers.  There is a little screw in one side of the amp that says GAIN.  Dialed it up and VIOLA!!!!  Turn it too much and there's a ton of reverb, to low and no center channel.  Guessing since the amp was fairly loose on it's mount screws the bouncing around caused it to dial down.....at least that is all I can figure.  Will put it all back together in the morning making sure the amp is mounted rock solid.

On the Clarion Amps you should "Exersize" all the "Pot's & Switches" located on top of the unit (and there are a lot of them). This means Turning the pots back and forth to get the oxidation off them. same with the switches.  Make sure you document the configuration before you start! If you have severe crackiling or the speakers are not working then I advise that you pick up a can of cleaner from Radio Shack and follow the direction with cleaning all the switches.  This will solve the problem most of the time.
