Weaver Davits

SerenitySerenity Member Posts: 162 ✭✭✭
I own a 2005 320. I have the Weaver Davit installed in the cut outs of the swim platform. My issue is that I have a Mercury 270 Airdeck Inflatable. I want to install the snap Davit pads with the yokes on the inflatable to use the system. The issue is that the place to glue the hard pads with the yokes is right on top of the rub rail of the inflatable. Has anyone attempted to remove the rub rail? I was wondering if I could remove the section of the rub rail where I need to glue the pads to the inflatable? Thank you for any advice you may have.

You have to cut the glue on pads to fit, not trim the boat rub rail.  You can get stand-offs that will raise/lower the clips to fit the dinghy better when in the water.

serenity, the correct application is to set the pads just above the rub rail. so they touch. I know you might think to put them on the rub rail as it is at the swim platform level. but that is wrong. when placed just above the rail it positions the dinghy furthest out off the swim step giving you 100% of your plateform space and less stess on the pads while up. yes the bow yoke will be higher than the platform when in the water but on its side if will fit perfect. call weaver. they will tell you this is the proper install. if you have a logo on the dinghy in the way of the pad. grind a 1/4 inch in on the 90 degree edge to a slop and sand the logo slightly where the pad goes. use blue tape to keep glue only where pad goes. I used a belt sander very gently. I have posted pics on previous discussions but here are a couple via my 320.

ps I did not use the notch outs rinker molded into the platform. my dinghy is 10 feet and needs more width for proper support. hence in heavy seas the dinghy does not rock and is solid in place.

another idea used for the stand offs... get the adjustable version. on the big boat trunk area you should have two hand rails. port is horizontal and starboard is vertical. I placed bimini end caps with eye holes on the ends to the rails. these hold the stand offs and dinghy. hence no drilling or other hardware place on the back of your boat. zoom in on the picture and you might see them on the hand rails. put bigger washers as back plates to help support the tension the dinghy might put on them. 2 years set up this way and all is great.

Nice setup LG.  Curious after seeing the gas can in the one pic, where do you keep it while cruising?

I put mine just above the rub rail on the dinghy. I also have my davits in the cutouts in the platform. Works great with no problems. I also purchased the quick connects, but they do not fit in the opening, so I ended up just mounting them in the cutouts.

Thank you everyone for your responses. I looked at installing the pads above the rub rail but it seemed they would be to high. Maybe I need to install the davits on the platform and not in the cutouts. I installed the davits in the cut outs and purchased from Rinker the StarBoard covers and it looks great but now seems not to functional. I will have to put the inflatable in the water again and line them up. Lifes Good I have a smaller inflatable and what you have was exactly what I was going to do. I have the smaller 270 airdeck but there is a lot going on with the side of the inflatable between the rubrail, rope handles and Mercury decals. If anyone has pictures of the smaller Mercury please post them. Thank you everyone.

@ Dream, I bungie the gas tank to the motor bracket along side the dinghy on the platform.

@ Serenity, I had a smaller dingy with inflateable bottom. I used the cut outs rinker provided on the platform. but I wanted somthing more stable and faster for three adults and crabbing. dont worry about the dinghy being on an angle when in water on davits. that is normal. the only down fall with these davits is the waves work the pin back and they release when the dinghy is floating. I use a small bungie to hold the pin from working its self back.

Lifes Good-thank you. I will look at it again this weekend.

Plus, once you have some weight in the dinghy it levels right out.
