Fwd birth Step box storage

I was in the cabin today and was looking at the step for the forward birth. Has anyone added a covered storage bin in it? There are ducts that run under it but it’s definitely doable.

Do it!! I was pondering the same for pots and also to get rid of the carpet. Galley storage on this boat sucks!

I received the hatch today, just need the liner to arrive so I can start measuring and cutting! Looks like the color will be a good match in the cabin also.

Yes, very strong. The only thing is I might have to modify the liner when it arrives. They don’t make one for this hatch anymore so I ordered a different brand. Worst case I’ll have to make a custom liner or fasten a bin underneath. I might find a bin to fasten underneath, this way I can go bigger.

From looking at your pics, I was leaning toward an angled back for the liner and just making the whole thing out of starboard.

Yes, that would work also, there will be some fiberglass and wood that will need to be cut out. I had this garbage pail in my basement, obviously it’s too tall but the right dimensions. Would like to use something wider all around and the correct depth and fasten it with screws and some 5200 underneath. Once I cut the opening, I’ll see what will work best. I probably won’t use the liner I ordered, definitely more useable space under there.
