Trumpet horn not working

MiamiAGMiamiAG Member Posts: 210 ✭✭
My boat came with a trumpet horn that stopped working last season. I had it replaced but the replaced one is now not working.

Any of you take these apart to see about fixing it? Or, do I need to just replace again? This time I may try to do it myself.

There should be a set of contact points in it that you can clean.

Around here mud dobbers make nests in things like horns and bilge/sink drains quickly.

If you're getting 12v at the horn id clean it, then replace if it srill doesn't work.

On my 342 I chased electric trumpet issues for 4 seasons. I’d take it apart, clean and oil it and it would work for a day or two. Finally gave up. This was flagged on the survey when selling the boat so I decided to make sure it was getting power and low and behold I found that while the dc connections at the horn looked visibly good, they had crumbled inside so it was working after I cleaned it because I’d jolt them together and then they would separate. I then re did the connections last November and come spring it still worked fine for the buyer.
