I did it!

Just bought a 2007 Rinker 280 EC. Can’t be more excited. Didn’t come with a trailer so rented one to bring It down to Portland Oregon where I live. That was fun haha. Going to keep it on the river here about 10 min from my house. Possible trips with it up in the San Juan Islands. Have already learned so much from the forum!!

There was a coffee shop like that in the Orlando area but either got shut down or just could not pull enough business in...you don't have to spend twenty bucks for coffee to see pretty much naked girls...just go to the beach!

Congrats post some pics, we had a 280EC in Anacortes for a few years. San Juan Islands and Gulf Islands were great boating.

    Beam is 9’1”.

Very Nice! Same beam as my 2000 270. From the trim line down it's the exact same hull I beleive. No need to change a good thing. Later 270's are 8'6" since I think the old 270 became the 280 and maybe even the 290 and the old 260 became the 270.
You will like how that hull handles the water.

My next boat will have a 9ft plus beam. I keep hearing how nice they are at anchor compared to the 8ft 6

The only small downside to being 9'1" is the oversize permit and signage requirements. Not a big deal just a mild annoyance for only being a few inches 8'6" , heck at this point it might as well be 12' wide.

I think over 8' 6" is standard in the 48. Permits are cheap and I just get a 30 day online for Washington . Oregon I had to go to the DOT and the year permit was maybe $20.

The biggest problem in not doing the permit and signs is when someone hits you and it's their fault until the police, the insurance, or the other driver realize you didn't have the signs and permits and now it becomes your fault.

In NC i think during day light hours under 10 ft requires no permit.

Im not sure about my state.  Usually a blanket 1 year towing permit can be bought. In my state its only legal for 1/2 hr after sunrise to 1/2 before sunset.

Here's a good link if anyone is interested in knowing.

    https://coast2coasttruckingpermits.com/state-province-legal-limits/

It looks like all states are 8' 6"

That's the other issue is constraints to travel times. For instance in Washington you can't travel on certain holidays like memorial day, July 4th, labor day etc.

Boats and boat trailers with an outside width of less than 120 inches in noncommercial use may be towed without a permit. A boat or boat trailer 102 inches to 114 inches in width may be towed at any time. A boat or boat trailer 114 inches to 120 inches in width may be towed from sunrise to sunset. A boat or boat trailer in excess of 102 inches in width but less than 120 inches in width must be equipped with at least two operable, amber lamps on the widest point of the boat and the boat trailer so the boat and boat trailer's dimensions are clearly marked and visible.

This is from the sc dot site.  They don't issue permits until youre 12 wide and larger from what i found. Permits are restricted to no Sundays or holidays.

This makes the 2859 i want road legal but leaves the searay 300 weekender the admiral wants in a gray area.

Hmm that's interesting, I have never seen something specific to boats. Of course I don't live in SC. It is annoying since a boat only has a small portion that is over but our regs specifically read that any trailer or load can not exceed 8'6"

Congrats on the new boat!  Looks great!  Funny how large they look out of the water, but then shrink once in.
