Smartcraft Throttle Position Sensor

Buddy on my dock has a 2008 boat with the dual electronic smartcraft controls. They are the chrome mercruiser controls with the buttons for sync and what not. He had some alarms go off that sent him in to guardian mode. His mechanic has diagnosed the alarms to the Throttle Position Sensor and is telling him that the sensor can't just be replaced, he needs a new throttle assembly which is way back ordered. Doesnt make sense to me that he could not replace just the sensor. Thoughts?

The throttle position sensor should be on the throttle body on the motor. I know on my 1999 2500 Chevy the sensor was bad and the truck shifted bad(automatic). Wouldn't think it would be the handles.

Yes, seems strange that he can’t just replace the sensor. Is it one or both engines going into guardian mode? If both maybe it is the throttle assembly?

Just one engine going in to guardian. I mis understood, he has to buy the entire $800 throttle body, not the throttle assembly. Still seems weird that he can’t just buy the little sensor...

I agree, that doesn’t seem right. Sensor should be around $100.00 .
