Carrier bearing..where is that at, at the universal or prop shaft? Lower is not a big deal as I'd think you cant see past the seal to be a bearing.. same on the universal joint on the too..except for a couple of guys I know around here I think most of these boat shoos are on you tube trying to figure it out like we do....last week working on a Hyundai and this week a merc might well be good mechanics ...
@icoultha - what made you change it? Were you leaking?
Yes, end of season last year lube monitor/VVM alarmed and it was low on starboard. Topped up and it slowly leaked down and could see in water. Raised drive and it stopped so I figured something down there. Trucked to storage where they do my service and winterization and confirmed what it was. Did both, all good now.
Can be done by DIY if mechanic inclined like you @PickleRick spanner wrench would be only special toolthe grey thing in the middle is the clutch cone. This is the look from the u jount side you can see the shift fork.
I'm not sure what he is saying a carrier bearing that would be visible would be located?? Maybe @Alswagg can shed some light...would not make sense that any bearing would be visible and open to water....except for the gimbal bearing and your replacing that right?

All you guys with bravo issues make me nervous.
Is it the stainless props that promote more corrosion? possible electrolysis from surrounding boats or even docks?
