Carbon monoxide replacement

Happy Fathers Day guys!

My carbon monoxide alarm needs to be replaced as it’s not working. This is the factory installed one.

When I pulled out the wires, here’s what I found. The ground wire was cut even though it had a butt connector further up the wire.

Is this correct for the alarm wiring or did someone screw up here?

Thank you

Mine looked exactly like that "almost same boat" one of my wires slipped out of the butt connector. I replaced it with the same factory one although there is some nice sealed battery units that give CO levels and temperature on a digital screen. If you buy the original one for replacement make sure you get the surface mount and not the flush mount, unless you want to cut a big hope. They look very similar when ordering it took me awhile to figure what the difference was.

    This is what I ordered
