New A/C - is it quieter?

I have in our 2003 FV310 the factory Passport Vector A/C that works fine but the it’s not real quiet and the Admiral says it keeps her awake. Typical compressor buzzing type noise but fully functional. Anyone replaced and could say it’s a big difference noise wise? A lot to shell out if there’s minimal difference because they are just not quiet nor much to block or deaden the sound.

yes. the new one, while still does make some noise, that annoying pitch hum is gone.

You cannot hear mine run. That includes sleeping in the v-berth where it is located. Blower sound yes. I replaced mine in 16/17. Mucho better than the original

Not sure which model the Vector Passport is, but if it's one of the compact units (composite base) made by Cruisair and now Dometic, they make sound shields for the compressor.  I put one on mine and it made a difference.  It's heavy plastic lined with neoprene.  They can be hard to find online, but if you look hard enough you can get them. Here's what it looks like.

You can put whatever you want in, the small one matched up almost exactly to mine... the only difference was the drip pan water exit was moved 3 inches further away... had to extend the hose a little bit.

These guys were the cheapest that I could find...and it comes with a better control panel

@J3ff - Just read the specs. I really like the de-humidification function. I'd be nice when it's too cool for the A/C but the air is clammy.

Yeah, next week looking pretty warm and expecting to be out most of the week will have ours humming and that may be what pushes the "get a quieter one" button.

@TonyG13 the Vector has dehumid function now, I use all the time

more bourbon ( or what ever the drink of choice ) will solve the problem much cheaper. I hear mine but to be honest, if it to quiet I could not sleep!

"Compatible with Cielo Breeze WIFI controllers" this is really cool too. As long as you are close to some wifi (or extend it from your house, if you need help w/ that let me know, it's 35 bucks) you can use your phone to control the ac on the boat!! Have mine set to turn on when I'm on the way home... (Or it did for a couple days when the boat wasn't OUT getting the drive replaced)
