Filling holes in textured gelcoat

I’m putting down new cockpit carpet and the previous carpet had approx one snap per square inch. I am not sure why but for sure the carpet would be the last thing to blow away.
Some of the snap studs are in the square textured areas of the deck, and I want it to look good when I’m done. My plan is to make a mold of the square pattern with some clay and then I need to coat the clay with something that the patch paste won’t stick to. I know patch paste won’t stick to Mylar but any idea of a suitable paint or other release agent?
