Tach suddenly reading high, and not returning to 0.

1998 Rinker 266, 7.4l/ B-3. Yesterday my tach started acting up. Seemed to reading high, not returning to 0 when shut down. No previous problems. Thanks ahead,TB

Give it the 'ol Faria tap... hit it with your knuckle a time or 2.. itll go back... it happens to all us

Remove the dash. In the back of the tach there is a "pot". Notice where its set at. Take a small screw driver and move the pot back and forth a bunch of times then put it in the same position that it was. That should last about 2 years............ Just say'n

I'm astounded you have a Faria Tapometer that only just started acting up.

I too did the tap and slap for a few years. Then had to pull the dash panel to run a new TV antenna cable and while in there did the back and forth on the pot screw. Still reads 900 RPM shut off.  But accurate when running.
