Oil Filters - Merc vs Quicksilver vs Sierra

Is there a quality difference between the above brands?

I suspect Merc & Quicksilver are probably the same filter with diff part numbers - Sierra aftermarket?

    It's like sports teams. Everyone has a favourite. Quicksilver is a Merc product rebranded to be sold at non Merc dealers I beleive.  Sierra has been around for quite a while. I use Merc oil filters but Sierra water separators. My marina tech who has been in the business for 40 years and acknowledged as the go to guy around here has no problem with Sierra.

    Funny, I stopped by a local dealer late yesterday & bought 2 Merc filters. They had ZERO boats in inventory. Actually they we’re painting their showroom.

    I said I hate buying filters cause it means we’re getting near the end of the season. Dealer said ~ it’s going to be difficult to get all the marine winterization stuff this fall since there are so many more boats out & around. He said the parts supply chain is already getting screwed up.

    FYI: Might be a good idea to buy your winterization stuff early this year.

    I also use wix on my boat, vehicles and all the shop's equipment.

    Do you all use the regular Wix or do you get the XP versions? I watched a video where they cut them both open and it seemed the XP version was a sturdier construction.

    I like NAPA Gold filters which I believe are made by Wix.

    What about fuel/water separators? Is there an opinion on these re comparison?

    I also run wix fuel and water separators.  Knock on wood, ive never picked up enough water to put them to the test.

    The only way id be super ocd about micron ratings on fuel filters is if I was running alternative fuels.  Stuff like vegetable oil, home made bio diesel, waste motor oil.

    I use Wix as well or Napa. Wix makes Napa filters.
