Pirate Flag (Jolly Roger)

I've been looking for a funny flag to fly and the marina I'm at had a pirate flag (jolly roger). I'm a big fan of the Pirates of The Caribbean movies so I purchased it thinking of it as more of a joke than anything else. It's not very big, maybe 12x20 however I was stopped by a police boat who told me that the flag was "borderline illegal." He said he could technically make me take it down but seeing as I'm operating a small pleasure craft he'd let it fly. I'm on Lake Huron, I had no idea this was a thing, anyone else heard of this?

These are on both sides if the boat. The admiral loves the goonies....who doesn't???
I also fly an 8x12 Blarney Bones pirate flag. Skull, criss bones and shamrock.
Ive proudly flown a pirate flag since about 2012.
On my sailboats i always flew a full sized jolly Roger. They looked authentic after a year or two flying the air.
