I've played at just about every crappy bar within 50 miles of DC. The crappier the bar, the more likely I've played there. Bangkok Blues? Many times. Apehangers? Absolutely. 9:30 Club? No, not crappy enough for me, but my brother played there.
Once I packed my drums onto the 342 and hauled them down the Potomac for shows at Port Tobacco Marina and St. Mary's Marina. The kick drum wouldn't fit through the cabin door, so it had to stay in the cockpit. We were making $75 a night, and it did not cover my gas money.
