It's these four guys ... the ones yelling "aieeeeeeeeee" and warming up the insides of their wet suits.  Then the boat gets into some water that's half bubbles, so it loses thrust and it's all over.

I’m not sure if he kept on his forward path he’d have crossed them anyway. However from where he started surely he could have had them in sight and shouldn’t have proceeded anyway.

My point is, this was not a guy trying to get through the inlet out to open water.  He's surf jumping for entertainment.  Jump a few waves, then turn around and do it again.
