Water and waste tank vent thru-hulls

The flush vents for the water and waste tanks seem to let rain water run into them.  I came to that conclusion when the carbon in my waste tank filer was always wet when I went to change it.  And no the tank never got THAT full.  I see lots of vents that come out and have screens pointing down, which I think would help prevent rain water finding it's way in.

My question:  Has anybody replaced their vents and if so, what size did you end up using?  I guess the 2nd question is: has anybody found a different solution for keeping the rain water out of their filters?

@Pat310 does this change easily - unlike the pump out where the hose was attached with the clamp so you can’t pull it out?

Me too, similar to Pat310 - replaced my waste vent with a Sea-Dog stainless 90* - for 5/8 inch hose. Works really well.

Original piece had the screen blown out, full of spiders.
Had to drill the hole out a crack bigger. 

Make sure you have a relief valve on your waste filter....

@icoultha it was not an easy task on our model. Had to squeeze myself up onto holding tank and reach way up to tighten back nut and hose clamp ☹️

@mattie I have a big orange filter, which has a relief valve.

@Pat310, yeah I figured. I want to change the hose from tank to port and it's impossible to get up there to undo clamp. I'll need to find a small child to do that....
