WT...all unread again?

IanIan Member Posts: 2,778 ✭✭✭✭
Checking out my favorite forum and lots of new posts... but wait, no they aren’t, mostly old ones now unread. Now what is wrong with this forum again?

Ian

I started to receive email notifications today which has never happened before.  I was able to go into my settings and uncheck to turn it off. no idea how it became enabled

Looks like this is showing unread numbers and yellow flag but also not bold for unread and bold for read. Wonder if they changed a setting?

At first I thought my account was locked because everything is showing bold. Makes it look like nothing is read until a yellow flag pops up.

@raybo3 , this is what I see when everything has been opened and read. All bold, looks like nothing has been read. Once someone makes a post, the topic is bold with the yellow flag.

After a post is viewed it turns gray. New posts have white back ground. That's how mine has been for a long time.

As @icoultha stated, unread posts used to be bold font subject line, read posts not bold.  Now all subject lines are bold.  That's what changed.

I literally see the change. My unread are a lighter colour the rare are grey on the bars.

For someone with color differentiation challenges its not a good change and needs to revert to hw it was.

@Dream_Inn - any chance to see if this setting can be changed? I was relying on the “new” flag but then seeing a number of posts without it but time stamp of last comment is since I last read stuff and a close look I can just see the difference. It was much better with new being in bold.

Raybo and I have been discussing this.  I do kind of agree that the greyed out is a bit different and difficult to see for read topics.  Maybe we can figure something out.

I’ve never noticed the grayed out area. I like the old way better....

I have an e-mail out to Vanilla. I will follow up when I hear back. Hopefully they can put it back.

    It’s not consistent though:

The new in highlighted yellow are obviously new for me now as are the 3 last items in gray as I read them from yesterday. But the “Best paint” thread is not tagged “new” nor gray and I know I have not read that thread nor did I do a  “Mark all viewed” as this was first visit today - and messages earlier and later are still new.

So the tagging and coloring doesn’t do what the bold and not bold did.

the new in yellow is only there when you have read some items in that topic, then it states how many comments are new.  The best paint topic is white, therefore you haven't read that topic, so it's completely new for you.  The items in grey are things you've read with nothing new in them.  Hope that helps.

@Dream_Inn as I had in fat looked at some of the prior emails initially.

@Handymans342 not sure it is to LYAO at, I do have color definition challenges. If only you knew of the "no it's blue, no green" or "pink or orange" discussion the Admiral and I have. I lose all the time.

Maybe I just haven't been paying attention, but with the exception of the yellow highlight for new posts I don't see any difference on either my laptop or phone. Both using Chrome browser. Any thread that I've read is slightly greyed out and any unread are brighter looking and have the yellow highlight, so easy to see.

Show bold unread, not bold for read - just like 99% of most email clients. Why break something that works perfectly well.
