Best way to clean the prop after the season? . Thx

Muriatic acid.  Apply with brush or spray bottle and let it sit a few minutes, then scrub with a brush or Scotchbrite pad.  Wear gloves and glasses.  

Some people say toilet bowl cleaner works, but it has never worked for me.

Cut the muriatic acid with water. If it’s too strong it will stain the stainless. When I did mine, I think I went 50/50.

The muratic acid @ 50/50 works great.  The only toilet bowl cleaner I have found that works well is The Works tb cleaner and Kaboom for hard water. I do a hand polish with Chemical Brothers heavy metal polish afterwards.

I soak mine in vinegar for about 15 minutes, give a light scrub and wash with soapy water. they come out very nice. Then I give them a coat of polish/wax

Anyone tried the 50/50 Muratix on trim tabs? Wonder if that would clean these up (I would remove them from the boat to clean)?

I put my prop inside a big oil pan for about 20 minutes with a  mix of 50/50 of water and muratic and It work like magic clean my props to shine finish again without any other work.

Not sure why you'd remove the tabs ... muriatic acid won't hurt the hull.

I did my tabs last year in place when I did props.

Right figured the acid would be a problem for the paint and that it would just be easier to clean them if removed

And also a great opportunity to grease the splines and check for errant fishing line etc.

Dumb question but where does one buy muratic acid? Home Depot? Paint section?

Pool store or pool chemical area of a store should have it.

Yes Home depot has it. Wear gloves and you need need to brush lightly. Be careful.

I guess they do make it in single gallon size for other purposes than pool chemicals. I had always just had it for our pool when we lived in Arizona.

A paint removal scotch-brite pad and elbow grease will do better than the acid wash on the tabs.

Gloves, glasses and a respirator next time for me. That stuff is angry on the lungs.
