Boxing Day, December 26th, originated in Great Britain and spread to Commonwealth countries around the world. It's not exactly clear where "Boxing" came from, but most theories suggest it was a day for charitable giving, either for the poor or "tipping" servants or tradespeople who served homeowners. The boxes for collecting for the poor were placed around town, although in some accounts people went door-to-door with a box for money to be deposited in it. When I was a kid it was a quiet day to get over the excesses of Christmas Day, play with your new toys, and also traditionally a time for sports and classic Christmas movies on TV. Andy
