Here is one I took that I have always liked...not from the boat but while we boated to Cayo Costa. We kept the boat on the bay side of the island and this is the beach side of the island...a very cool place!
if your really bored sometime,on google earth look up Cayo Costa Island which is in the Port Charlotte area...near Handy's new neck of the woods. I you look at the image, on the west side about a quarter of the way down, there is a lagoon on the west side- this area is the inlet to that lagoon- it's a very cool spot. There is a state park to the north of this area but this area is not easily accessible from the park-plus you'd have to walk and it's a long ways from the park proper area.....and from where this is south, you hardly see anyone. The little inlet has changed location since I took this picture as this area is always changing which makes it extra special. Have not been there is about 3 years now but the private area of the island has maybe 12 homes on it, just paths for 4 wheelers, no stores, power etc. and is only accessible by boat. We always went in July and there are about 3 homes that you can rent-the others are snow bird homes so in the summer you pretty much have the island to yourself- which can be a little eerie at first as you are for sure all by yourself on an island for the most part-but there is a ranger station on the northern part if you get into trouble. A very special place that won't last much longer I'm sure as I am hearing that development is back on the rise in that area...
also, if you look at the image you will see right around that area a path that goes east to west which goes over to a docking area and the homes that are rental are along that path. They were like a grand for the week, have gas for the fridge and stove and solar for everything else. They are built way up in the air for both storm surge and ventilation. During the 04 hurricanes, the next island to the north was cut in half and was 3' under water! It's a very special area to me for sure.....hope to go back but there are so many other places to explore here in FL and since I trailer, we are expanding our horizons! I think I could still get the 270 in there but you really have to watch the tides. There is a water taxi that goes in there so I'd think I'd be ok...
