@Lake_Bum, Lake Powell is a magical place. I wish I lived closer because that's just too long a haul for us to take our boat out there, even for a once a year thing, from Eastern Iowa. My brother lived in SLC for 20 years, and I went out there every year and we covered a lot of territory, skiing, backpacking, off roading, etc. Have you heard of the efforts to drain Lake Powell? Apparently, a handful of environMENTAL nut jobs don't think that in the entirety of the Southwest, there are enough canyons for them to hike in. Complete lunacy!

@Glassguy54, I couldn't agree more about Lake Powell being a magical place! I'm only 90 minutes away, and we go there a LOT

. I was basically raised on it, and my Grandpa even helped with the construction of the dam. I am very aware of the draining threats from the environMENTALists. I don't want to completely sidetrack this thread with political issues, but lets just say it will NEVER happen! Here's another Powell pic....
