2008 330 starboard fuel sending unit

Anyone replaced one?  Very limited space and cannot get it out.  Looks like cutting a hole will be necessary.  Thanks for any input.

@redlightning , I recently replaced my port side sending unit on my 2008 330. I had to remove the cockpit refrigerator and a panel, it was pretty straight forward. For my starboard sided, I remember seeing a round deck plate that unscrews above the sending unit. I’ll see if I have pics to post.

This is port side. I don’t have any starboard side pics. I can take some when I get some time. If yours is like mine, you can unscrew the deck plate and remove the sender up through it.

Thanks.  My port side is the same and easily accessible.  The starboard side i think can’t be done without cutting a hole best I can tell.

I spent a good bit of time contorted in the starboard fuel tank space working on running wires for vesselview etc and it seemed to me that you could maybe pull it out and angle it toward the hullside?  I was able to lay on top of the generator box and do work in that area.

Are you sure they are bad? A lot of times it’s a grounding issue.

We removed the screws thinking it would angle out and no go.  Regarding grounding.  It works fine from 1/2 tank to full.  Once you drop to 1/2 tank it stays there.  Pretty sure it’s sending unit.

My port sender was kinda doing the same thing, I ended up replacing it.

Sending unit replaced.  If you tackle this project be aware two layers of wood where this hole is cut.  Also a wiring harness that can easily be damaged.  I opened up the access panel under the drivers seat and used a stick to slide under the wiring harness and hold it up while hole was cut.  Very tight spot to work in.  Glad my son was there to help.  Sealed up the hole with closed cell foam.

@redlightning , was the black foam covering the sender also? That’s crazy that you had to drill the hole? I wonder if my starboard side was replaced and they drilled the hole and added the deck plate.

We did have to remove a small amount of foam that was covering the sender.  I don’t know how it could have been removed without cutting a hole.  We removed the screws and pulled it out as far as it would go and it would not angle much to allow removal.  We simply filled the hole good with closed cell foam.  Very difficult space to work in.

I’ll have to cut a hole in the deck if I need to replace starboard sender on my 310, there’s no access to it. Port is a contortionist act without the generator in the way.
