Changing Battery Type

seahawkseahawk Member Posts: 62
Recently bought a new to me  280EC. I’m swapping out the 2 Flooded Lead Acid house batteries for AGMs. Also changing the Starter battery for AGM.        The onboard battery charger should be “smart” enough that I can program it to charge the battery as per AGM chemistry. But what about when I’m charging using the alternator when running??   Will the existing internal regulator in the alternator be able to charge AGMs properly or am I going to have to buy an external regulator..????....or should I be “good to go”..???   Thanx again everyone for all the information .......it’s appreciated.

Because the batteries and alternator are all 12 volt DC it doesn't matter. The onboard charger has to convert 120v AC to DC and in the most proper charge profile for the battery type.

Charger is only thing you need to be concerned with.  Alternator will work fine.
